Amy Lawton, LVT, VTS(Anesthesia/Analgesia) graduated from Becker College in 1993 with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. She worked at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine from 1994-2005 in the ER/ICU and Anesthesia departments. In 2003 she received her Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Anesthesia & Analgesia. In 2005, she moved north to work at Dover Veterinary Hospital in Dover, NH as the head technician. In 2008, Amy was transferred to Port City Veterinary Hospital in Portsmouth, NH as the head technician of the anesthesia/surgery department. In June 2010, Amy joined Pieper Veterinary in Middletown, CT where she continues to work part time.
In 2014, Amy joined Middlesex Community College’s Veterinary Technology Program as their Licensed Veterinary Technician on a full time basis where she oversees the hands-on clinical aspects of the program. This role includes clinical and laboratory set-up and maintenance, coordination of animal use to facilitate instruction, scheduling of student rotations, and coordination with clinical partners. Amy has significant teaching responsibilities, both didactic and hands-on. Additionally, she is involved with outreach and all logistical aspects of the program.
Amy has a special interest in relieving anxiety and minimizing/treating the pain veterinary patient’s experience. She has given several lectures in local and national veterinary conferences. She has published articles in Veterinary Technician and a book chapter on anesthesia monitoring. In her spare time Amy can be found hiking with her dogs and gardening.
